Security Trends for Non-Windows Systems

It’s a common misconception that only the Windows operating system, and Microsoft applications are vulnerable to viruses and other scumware. The truth is that they are the targets of greatest opportunity from an economic ROI perspective, and are therefore attacked far more often. But all software and operating systems are vulnerable to attack. Even the MAC, which diehard fans still believe is invincible. [See my post entitled How Safe Is Your MAC? What Must You Do Now to Secure It? for some insights into this issue.]

TechRepublic is offering a FREE, live Webcast on May 16th entitled Protect and Comply: Security Trends for Non-Windows Systems. The seminar is sponsored by Sophos — a world leader in protecting businesses, education and government against viruses, spyware, spam and email policy abuse — and will cover best practices in securing non-Windows computers, including heterogeneous mixed-OS environments. This FREE, interactive Web event will also feature live Q&A, so you can get your questions on defending non-Windows computers answered by leading industry analysts.

Speakers include Brian Burke and Chris Christiansen of IDC, and Clive Wainstein, Product Marketing Manager of Sophos. James Hilliard of TechRepublic will serve as moderator.

The seminar begins at 2:00 p.m. ET. You can find the link to preregister on their main web site, about 1/4 of the way down on the left. By preregistering, you can verify in advance that you will have a working connection and the software needed to properly see and hear the webcast. If not, you will be able to download the Real Media player on the spot.
